Broward College Social Behavioral Sciences and Human Services Department presented Tremaine Hemans ’19 with the Pillar of the Community award, which recognizes individuals or organizations for outstanding service to their community. The service recognized is for volunteer time, charitable giving and for doing visionary work to solve pressing challenges, build opportunity and equity, and create a brighter future for Broward College students and alumni.
Tremaine was recognized for her avid work during law school to increase the number of black students attending and succeeding in law school through numerous events and speaking engagements to high school and undergraduate students helping them obtain tools not handy to first generation college students from low income backgrounds. She was also recognized for her mentorship program through her website www.legallytrem.com which seeks to continue her work with these students after her graduation from law school.
